Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.
  • The text is typed with one and a half interlaced intervals; Font size is 14 points; It uses italic, not underscore (except for URLs); All illustrations, graphs and tables are located in the appropriate places in the text, and not at the end of the document.

Author Guidelines

"Siberian Medical Journal (Irkutsk)" publishes articles on the problems of medical science and practical public health, as well as on related issues.

The magazine publishes reviews, original articles, messages from practice, lectures, information messages. All submitted materials are reviewed and discussed by the Editorial Board.

The manuscript of the article should be presented in 2 copies printed on one side of the standard sheet (Times New Roman font 14 pt, line spacing "one and a half"). Field sizes: left - 30 mm, right - 10 mm, upper and lower - each not less than 20 mm. In electronic form, the manuscript of the article is submitted via this website (preferably) or sent by e-mail to sibmedjur@mail.ru in rtf format (in the "subject" section of the letter the author's name, city and the first words of the work title are indicated).

The tables should be no more than 3-8. When building tables, you need to represent all items in separate lines. The illustrations are performed in graphic editors in the form of black and white clear files of the format * .jpg, * .tif with a resolution of at least 300x300 dpi. Drawings should be carried out compactly in order to save space. The most suitable for typographical reproduction are the one-column width (up to 8 cm), two columns (up to 17 cm) or the entire sheet (15x20 cm). Drawings must be submitted in separate files.

The manuscript should be accompanied by the official direction of the institution in which the work is carried out. On the first page of the manuscript there should be a signature of the scientific adviser, certified by the seal of the institution. On the last page of the manuscript must be the signatures of all authors. The manuscript is accompanied by information about the author responsible for contacting the editors (full name, full postal address, contact numbers, e-mail address). An envelope with a stamp must be attached. The front page (first page) includes the Russian and English languages: the title of the work, the initials and surnames of the authors, the full name of the institution, the department (department, laboratory, etc.), indicating the initials, surname, academic title and degree of leaders, and summary. The abstract should contain not less than 400-500 words, briefly reflect the purpose, methods, the most important results of the study with key numerical data. The resume is completed with "keywords" (from 3 to 10), which help indexing articles in information retrieval systems. At the end, contact details of authors, postal and e-mail addresses, telephone and e-mail, as well as full names, names, patronymics, positions, academic degrees and titles of all authors. The volume of original articles is 8 pages or more, a scientific review of the literature - 12 pages or more.

The structure of the original article includes: introduction - it sets out the purpose and necessity of conducting the research, briefly highlights the state of the issue with references to the most significant publications; materials and methods - quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the subjects surveyed (objects of research), as well as all research methods used in the work, including methods of statistical data processing and software products are mentioned. The results should be presented in a logical sequence in the text, tables and figures. The discussion highlights new and important aspects of the results of the study, can include well-founded recommendations and a brief conclusion. Bibliography. The list of literature is compiled in alphabetical order (at first the work of domestic authors, then foreign ones) is printed on a separate sheet. In the text of the article, bibliographic references are indicated by Arabic numerals in square brackets, in accordance with the numbering in the list of references. When mentioning the names of authors in the text, they should be preceded by initials (the names of foreign authors are given in the original transcription). It is recommended to quote no more than 15 in the original articles, and 60 sources in the reviews. Bibliographic description of the literature sources to the article is given in accordance with GOST 7.0.5-2008 "Bibliographic description of documents" (2008). The reduction of words and phrases is also given in accordance with GOST 7.11-78 "Reduction of words and phrases in foreign and European languages ​​in the bibliographic description of works of the press" and 7.12-77 "Reduction of Russian words and phrases in the bibliographic description of works of the press."

The work should be written correctly, the text, tables and other materials are carefully verified. Manuscripts that are not drawn up in accordance with these rules are not accepted for consideration and are returned to the authors for revision. The Editorial Board reserves the right to shorten and edit the work. Responsibility for the content of the article and interpretation of the data obtained is borne by the author.

Plagiarism detection

“Sibirskij Medicinskij Zurnal (Irkutsk)" (Siberian Medical Journal (Irkutsk) use native russian-language plagiarism detection software Antiplagiat to screen the submissions. If plagiarism is identified, the COPE guidelines on plagiarism will be followed.

Peer Review Process

All works submitted to the editorial office of the Siberian Medical Journal (Irkutsk) journal undergo mandatory double-blind reviewing (the reviewer does not know the authors of the work and the authors of the manuscript do not know who reviews them).

  1. Articles are reviewed by members of the editorial board and the editorial board. The decision on the choice of a reviewer for the examination of the article is made by the chief editor, deputy chief editor. The review period is 2-4 weeks, but at the request of the reviewer it can be extended by decision of the editorial board.
  2. Reviewer has an option to abnegate the assessment should any conflict of interests arise that may affect perception or interpretation of the manuscript. Upon the scrutiny, the reviewer is expected to present the editorial board with one of the following recommendations:
    - to accept the paper in its present state;
    - to invited the author to revise their manuscript to address specific concerns before final decision is reached;
    - that final decision be reached following further reviewing by another specialist;
    - to reject the manuscript outright.
  3. If the reviewer has recommended any refinements, the editorial staff would suggest the author either to implement the corrections, or to dispute them reasonably. Authors are kindly required to limit their revision to 2 months and resubmit the adapted manuscript within this period for final evaluation.
  4. We politely request that the editor be notified verbally or in writing should the author decide to refuse from publishing the manuscript. In case the author fails to do so within 3 months since receiving a copy of the initial review, the editorial board takes the manuscript off the register and notifies the author accordingly.
  5. If author and reviewers meet insoluble contradictions regarding revision of the manuscript, the editor-in-chief resolves the conflict by his own authority.
  6. The decision to refuse to publish the manuscript is made at a meeting of the editorial board in accordance with the recommendations of the reviewers. An article that is not recommended by the editorial board for publication is not accepted for reconsideration. The message about the refusal to publish is sent to the author by e-mail.
  7. Upon the decision to accept the manuscript for publishing, the editorial staff notifies the authors of the scheduled date of publication.
  8. Kindly note that positive review does not guarantee the acceptance, as final decision in all cases lies with the editorial board. By his authority, editor-in-chief rules final solution of every conflict.
  9. Original reviews of submitted manuscripts remain deposited for 5 years.
